Beer Making Malt
Beer making malt contributes a great deal to the quality of the beer. The most obvious effect is that of color. No other ingredient affects the color of a beer as much as the malted barley.
Beer making malt, more commonly referred to as malted barley, is a cereal much like rice or wheat. And while beer can be made from both rice and wheat, barley is generally considered the best. It generally has a sweet taste which makes an ideal balance to the hops.
Beer making malt is used to create the “wort”, which is the base for nearly every type of beer. The wort is a sugar-infused water into which the remaining ingredients are added. The malt extracts that can be purchased from most brewer supply outlets are essentially just concentrated, dehydrated and packaged wort.
